European funds

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, the European Commission has implemented specific actions to help EU countries fight the health emergency, also drawing on EU resources made available within the Programs financed by the European Structural and Investment Funds at national level.

The Civil Protection Department - which is in charge of the coordination of interventions aimed at countering the Coronavirus since the declaration of the state of emergency on January 31, 2020 - is the beneficiary of EU funding aimed at strengthening the National Health Service.

The project aims to support the assessment of the technological equipment needs of regional and local health facilities, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. The aim is the rapid activation of procedures for the purchase and distribution of equipment to requesting facilities.

Improvement of the response capacity of the National Health Service and multi-level governance in the management of health emergencies is the primary objective of the initiative, which requires the participation of technical bodies, central administrations, institutions, local authorities and territorial health structures.

The Department's project falls under the new Specific Objective 2.3 of Axis 2, Action 2.3.1 - Interventions to strengthen the technological endowments of public health facilities in response to health crises - of the NOP Governance and Institutional Capacity 2014-2020, with allocated resources of 36,372,576.41 euros.
